About RiverCrest
Committed to Preserving the Environment and Native History
Past and Present at RiverCrest
This riverfront property is rich with history. Early man dwelled in this area in peace and at one with the land and nature. Later, Plains Indians continued this tradition as wards of the land and took only what was necessary to live within the bounty of the environment. Still later, the frontiersmen came - settlers from all walks of life who promoted "improvements" upon the land. Communities sprang up, farms and ranches were carved from the land and forts took up positions for protection. Still the historical and beautiful Brazos River flowed ever onward.
Now at the new RiverCrest property, a more traditional approach is being laid out. Current owners Bob and Phyllis Popplewell have developed a plan where not one piece of clearing or improvement is done beyond what it takes to provide basic comforts for members and guests. They have a strategy to maintain as much rugged original land condition as is practical. The result is that people can experience the wilds and the way it was for our forefathers once again.
Bob has a background of public service, university teaching, and a deep abiding faith in the entrepreneurial spirit that serves him to further the cause at RiverCrest among his many other ongoing projects. The turtle and reptile ranch make for interesting and educational additions for members to enjoy. Phyllis is starting a non-profit youth program to provide special training and discovery for young people to appreciate the past and present as these come together in nature on the river. They have lived and worked on location for nearly 20 years.
Now other folks can join Bob and Phyllis at this exclusive and private camping destination. Bring your family, your friends, your pets. Come BE on the river, walk the trails, explore the islands, play in the sand, catch fish, see wildlife, and do the many things that all make up your own custom-built adventure. Just being out of the city and away from the ever-present timepieces that direct our lives can be a refreshing and life-extending calming experience. (It's only a half-hour drive from Dallas - Ft. Worth.) Sit and watch the river run. Stroke the sands in search of ancient fossils, or drift casually along the river in tubes or kayaks, relaxing on a hot day. Paddle your own canoe or kayak (or use one of ours). A trip to RiverCrest, be it an afternoon's picnic or a week of relaxation, will enhance your life - period!
You can enjoy the solitude of nature yourself, or bring a group – the
options for adventures are almost endless. And, each time the Brazos’ waters
rise during rains in spring, the river is renewed again - exposing its many
treasures to all who are willing to take a look through discovery and
exploration. Make the decision of WHAT YOU wish to do an endless discovery
itself!! Try them ALL out!
